Helping you be your BEST.

Meet Jeannie, M.S., CCC-SLP

Hi, I’m Jeannie Nelson, owner of Breathe Eat Sleep Talk

I’m an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist, working in the state of Arizona. Speech Therapy is so much more than a career for me. It’s my life, my hobby, and my passion. I am a forever learner, and love helping others. Born and raised in Arizona, graduated from ASU with an undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and received a Masters of Science from NAU in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology. I originally learned about the field from my grandmother, who was also a speech therapist. My heart was also called as a child through sign language, and watching my aunt use signs with my (at the time) non-verbal cousin with Downs Syndrome. I learned communication limited to verbal means and how important it is each human has a voice/ means to communicate.

I have worked in a variety of practice settings including: schools and preschools, early intervention in homes, home health with older children, hospital, private clinics, and out of my own home. I now own and operate Breathe Eat Sleep Talk, in a private practice setting. I love working with people of all ages, from babies just starting foods, to adults through the lifespan.

While I have experience working with individuals with a range of communication needs, my special interests currently include: early intervention and preschool receptive/expressive language, speech sound disorders, myofunctional therapy, tethered oral tissue (TOTS), airway and feeding.

My own Airway journey

I started looking into myofunctional therapy, TOTs and airway when I discovered my second daughter had tethered oral tissues including tongue, lip and cheek ties. This made breastfeeding challenging and painful. We had her ties released at 5 days old. Unfortunately, we had to have it all revised with another release and continuing stretches for another 6-8 weeks when she was around 4 months old due to continued restriction. This took me in a deep-dive of what else we (as parents) can do for our kids. I now know all 3 of my kids (and husband and myself) have tethered oral tissues and need work to become healthy nasal breathers.

As I’ve started my own health journey, I discovered I have a tongue thrust, was a mouth breather, and have a high arched/ narrow palate and as a result, a super tiny airway. Health problems I was always told were “genetic” or “we don’t know why” finally all made sense. I’ve struggled with chronic fatigue as long as I can remember, have Hashimotos Thyroiditis, low back pain, enlarged tonsils, deviated septum (and difficulty in general breathing through my nose), bruxism (teeth grinding), gagging, and have a forward head posture.

I am currently on a journey of what to do to maximize my airway space and improve my facial structures so I can breathe more efficiently. I’m on this journey with you! I want nothing more than to help others be their BEST. My heart is in this personally and professionally. I can’t wait to help you.

Meet Chelsea, M.S., CCC-SLP

Chelsea is a speech language pathologist who received her masters degree from Northern Arizona University.  She has been working as a pediatric speech therapist for over 15 years in clinic, school and home-based settings. Her area of interest is in orofacial myofunctional disorders and sensory-based feeding difficulties. She loves early intervention, and the progress that can be seen in oral development, feeding, and communication skills when families realize the power they have to help their children. Outside of work, Chelsea loves cooking, camping, and having adventures with her 3 little kids. Chelsea believes that all children deserve respect, compassion, and someone to believe in them!

What we do

  • Speech Therapy

Speech sound disorders including but not limited to articulation and phonological speech sound patterns, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment.

  • Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Oral myofunctional therapy targets the function of oral motor muscles for breathing, eating, chewing, swallowing, and speaking. Please see the OMT page for more information.

  • Habit Elimination

30-day habit elimination program for thumb sucking, digit sucking, extended pacifier use, object chewing, or tongue sucking.

  • Feeding Therapy

With a myofunctional and SLP eye, I work with children to help mealtimes, picky eating, food aversions, and oral motor therapy.

  • Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

The Gillespie approach is a hands-on modality that is gentle and allows a person’s body to stretch, move, and unwind. CFT blends the two established modalities of Dr. William Sutherland's Cranial Sacral Therapy and John Barnes' Myofascial Release, along with dental techniques developed from Dr. Gillespie’s experience as a periodontist.

CFT techniques are designed to gently unwind and release accumulated fascial strain. This allows optimal mobility and better brain function. When the Craniosacral Fascial System is loose and open there is free flow of cerebrospinal fluid to help nourish and cleanse toxins.
