What is craniosacral fascial therapy?
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that combines craniosacral techniques with fascial release. This approach works to ease restrictions in both the cranial (head) and fascial (connective tissue) systems, improving mobility, circulation, and overall function.
Think of it as a way to “free up” your body’s tissues so they can move, grow, and heal the way they were designed to.
How CFT Works
Your fascia is a connective tissue network that surrounds and supports every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in the body. When restrictions form — whether from birth, injury, surgery, or stress — they can impact how you move, feel, and function.
CFT uses light, sustained pressure and gentle movement to:
Release fascial restrictions
Improve craniosacral rhythm and cerebrospinal fluid flow
Reduce strain on muscles and joints
Support natural healing and balance in the body
When the body’s fascial system is freed and the muscles are aligned through therapy, the innate healing mechanisms are awakened, allowing the body to restore balance, function, and overall health.
Benefits of CFT
Relieves deep tension in the head, neck, jaw, and body
Enhances healing after oral procedures, orthodontics, or injury
Improves mobility of oral and facial tissues
Supports better breathing, sleep, and overall comfort
Prepares the body for more effective myofunctional therapy and long-term results
Why CFT + Myofunctional Therapy Work So Well
When we pair CFT with myofunctional therapy, we address both the “hardware” and the “software” of the body:
CFT releases restrictions in tissues, making movement easier and more comfortable
Myofunctional therapy retrains the muscles for optimal function
Together, they create a strong foundation for lasting improvements in oral function, posture, and overall wellness.
What to Expect in a CFT Session
Sessions are comfortable and relaxing. You may lie fully clothed on a treatment table while your therapist uses gentle holds and guided movements to release restrictions. Many clients notice improvements in comfort, mobility, and ease of movement even after a single session.
